Pastor

Dr. and Mrs. J. Todd Vanaman
Dixie Baptist Church is indeed a church for the whole family. My dad, Dr. Paul Vanaman, founded the church in August of 1954; I was just less than two years old at the time. Growing up in this ministry, I have wonderful memories of the earliest days, and have seen God continue to provide for, and faithfully bless us.

Like any church, we have had our heartaches, battles, and setbacks, yet the Lord has guided us through it all. Dad always said, “We’ve had enough torpedoes shot at us to have sunk us a long time ago, but by the grace of God we’re still afloat.” Dixie Baptist Church is a testimony to God’s amazing grace.

We believe and preach the Bible, still use hymnbooks, incorporate ministry programs to: Evangelize the Lost; Equip Believer’s; and Edify the Family, to be disciples of our great Savior. We are a church family for your family. Come join us, I know that you will find your place in “the heart of Dixie.”

BIOGRAPHY »

I graduated from local Clarkston High School in 1970, and after my college training, I came on staff in 1974, our 20th anniversary year. I served along side my father in various areas of ministry, including Youth Pastor, teacher and coach in our Christian school, music ministry, and Associate Pastor for the next 18 years. God called my dad home to Heaven in February 1992, and the Lord allowed me to succeed him as Pastor. I was raised here; met my wife, Vanessa, here; and have raised our six daughters here, with a son in Heaven. God has brought us a couple of fine sons-in-law, and three granddaughters and one grandson to date. We’ve begun our fourth generation growing and serving here. Many of our church families have done the same. Along with the new families that God brings our way, we all continue to grow together in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
